The world works in mysterious ways, and sometimes, love finds you when you least expect it. In my case, it happened while I was on a work trip in Lesotho, lots of city away from where my future husband resided – Nigeria.
One Friday night, after a virtual dose of spiritual renewal through an RCCG Holy Ghost service livestream, I wasn’t quite ready for sleep. Scrolling through Instagram, I noticed a friend request, but with a private account and a strong sense of guarding my online space, I held off on accepting it immediately.
Fast forward a week, curiosity got the better of me. I checked the request again, only to discover a message waiting in my inbox. This was during a time when I was still healing from a heartbreak, so I must admit, I went into the conversation with a cautious heart.
Thankfully, my soon-to-be husband had the gift of gab. Our messages that morning flowed with intelligence and humor, sparking a conversation that stretched through the day. Impressed by his genuineness, I accepted his friend request a few days later. Distance couldn’t dampen the connection that blossomed between us. We chatted endlessly, sharing our passions, life experiences, and dreams for the future.
Here’s where the story gets interesting! It turns out, our meet-cute wasn’t a one-way street. My husband, on a separate occasion, stumbled upon my profile while browsing Instagram comments. Intrigued by a comment I left, he ventured to my page, only to find it set to private.
Intrigued by the mystery behind the profile picture, he did something similar – a follow request followed by an unfollow after a peek. This little digital nudge caught my attention, and well, curiosity (once again!) led me to his profile.
The story from there mirrors mine – questions exchanged, explanations offered, and a day spent engrossed in conversation, traversing topics from work and hobbies to favorite movies. By the end of that marathon chat session, not only had I accepted his friend request, but we’d also exchanged phone numbers.
And that, dear friends, is where our love story truly began. From July 2nd, 2022, not a day has passed where we haven’t spoken. Miles couldn’t keep us apart, and now, we’re here, ready to embark on the next chapter together, as husband and wife.
